LBT Innovations’ ambition is to become a leader in innovation in the international pathology laboratory market with multiple products to take to that market. The company also intends to grow its healthcare diagnostic and automation technology through organic development and potentially through merger and acquisition opportunities.

Microbiology laboratories operate today much as they did over a century ago. It is inevitable that automation will be adopted on a widespread basis but it is estimated that only about 5% of laboratories have automated their most time consuming processes to date.  However, it is expected that competitive pressure on laboratory operators will see the rate of adoption of the automation technology increase rapidly.

Around 60% of the workload of a typical laboratory is in the preparation of culture plates, including inoculation and streaking.  This is therefore where the biggest efficiency savings can be made and it is the area addressed by PREVI Isola.  The next most time consuming activity is the reading and recording of the plates, which is the area addressed by LBT’s new technology, APAS.

LBT Innovations is continuing to apply resources to the development of other technologies to take to the international laboratory market.  The company is also working with its commercial partner bioMérieux,on the development of potential line extensions to PREVI Isola.
